Dear Lake Oswego Girl’s Youth Lacrosse Community,

Welcome to the 2020 LOYL Girls Lacrosse program.  You are receiving this email because your daughter is signed up for LOYL girls lacrosse this spring or your daughter has registered for LOYL in previous years.  Registration closes March 1st for grades 5/6 and 7/8, and April 1st for 3/4. There have been some questions raised over the last few weeks with regards to the upcoming season.   Please let this email serve as reference for many of these issues.

Is there an open house this year?

The answer is No.  We will be having a parent meeting instead at the first practice of the season for each of the age groups – please refer to the schedule below.

When does the season start?

The 3/4 girls start the week of March 30.

The 5/6 and 7/8 girls will start practice the week of March 2nd. (see below)

***ACTION ITEM:  your daughter will not be able to participate at the Assessment if these THREE forms are not filled out.  https://lakeoswegoyouthlacrosse.teamsnapsites.com/forms/  Please complete ASAP.

Assessment week – March 2 -March 6

**Assessment week is the time in which the coaches evaluate the players and assess their skills for team placement
**Assessments are done only at the 5/6 and 7/8 grade levels.
**There are 2 sessions.  Need to attend both sessions – see below

Assessment times/location

  • Wednesday March 4th / Friday March 6th

    • Girls 5/6 – 5:30-7:00pm – (Hazelia)

    • Girls 7/8 – 7:00-8:30pm – (Hazelia)

  • Parent meeting for 5/6 parents at 5:30pm on Wednesday March 4th

  • Parent meeting for 7/8 parents at 7:00om on Wednesday March 4th

5/6 – 7/8 Assessment Procedure:

  • Each assessment day will require the participant to sign in and obtain an identification bib number from the program administrators.  This will be her number for both tryout days March 4th and 6th.  She will need to remember to bring this bib # to the second tryout day.

  • A table will be set up under the cover at Hazelia for this process.  Once signed in, your daughter will be directed to the field for participation.

  • The coaches will be assessing such skills as catching, throwing, ground balls, cradling, shooting, effort, intangibles, etc.

  • For tryouts, no specific uniform will be required.  I suggest something warm! Only mandatory pieces of equipment are a lacrosse stick, lacrosse goggles, and a mouthguard.  Tennis shoes work on the turf, but cleats are recommended – especially when we practice or play on the grass.

  • The teams will be announced by March 10th.

  • Please note that we request your daughter participate in both sessions during the week of March 2nd.

  • If this will not be a possibility for your child, please notify loyllacrosse@gmail.com

  • There will be 3 teams at the 7/8 level, and 2-3 teams at the 5/6 level.  Teams will be divided into “platinum” and “gold” and classifications – with the most skilled players being placed on the “platinum” teams.   Please note team selection is based on objective assessment of skill, and discussion and agreement amongst coaching staff.

  • **Regardless of team placement, all players in an age group will be practicing together “academy style” at the same time/location throughout the season.  We have found this to be advantageous throughout the years with regards to skill development, friend networks, carpooling, etc. We break-up into teams for weekend games.

During the month of March, we will begin having practices for 5/6 and 7/8 only.   We realize that the participants may still be dealing with other obligations (winter sports, other extra-curricular activities, etc.)  These practice opportunities in March have been offered to simply get more lacrosse time for your daughters.  Attendance is not mandatory – but encouraged.

MARCH PRACTICES: (5/6 and 7/8)

Age Specific Contacts:

Please send any messages regarding team specific issues to the proper team administrator.

I would also like to extend thanks to all of the coaches who have stepped forward to dedicate the next 3 months of their time to helping your daughters learn the game of lacrosse.  This program is a success because of their volunteer efforts!

Sorry for all the information, but I was trying to encompass all the issues that have been surfacing over the past few weeks.  Hopefully this answers most of your questions at this time.

Thanks for your support.  Look forward to another great year of LAX
